prison & Judicial

The Canadian Prison Strap was used in Federal Penitentiaries in Canada until the early 1970’s. It could be ordered by the courts , usually attached to a prison sentence, or whilst serving a sentence for breaches of prison rules , generally given to men however women were also strapped too , but this ceased in 1948.

We make an authentic reproduction using the original specifications it is 26 inches long x 3 inches wide ( 660 mm x 76 mm ) with two rows of five holes ,made of finest quality English leather.Which we offer it in several severities and a choice of colours.

Why the holes? There are lots of theories as to why the strap has holes, in testing we have found that it stops the strap twisting in flight preventing striking with the edge, the holes dissipate the   air building up in front of the strap, avoiding any cushioning of the impact .it also allows the strap to move faster through the air allowing making for a more effective strike .
